NDDC: Niger Delta group condemns HURIWA’s comment on National Assembly – Guardian Nigeria

A Niger Delta group has condemned the assertion by Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria calling for the suspension of the probe of the period in-between administration committee of the Niger Delta Vogue Commission by the National Meeting.
HURIWA talked about as an different of the National Meeting, a “excessive profile judicial commission of inquiry” must be entrusted with the probe.
[It] “is the imperative name and wish for the instantaneous constitution collectively by the President Muhammadu Buhari and the hierarchy of the National Meeting of a 7 member highly efficient nonetheless self reliant Judicial Investigative commission to gaze at the accusations of corruption and fraud in both the IMC of the Commission and the relevant committees of the 2 chambers of the National Meeting on Niger Delta Vogue Commission,” HURIWa talked about in the assertion signed by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf.

But Niger Delta Renaissance Coalition (NDRC) claimed that HURIWA become once one other “hireling” of the period in-between administration committee (IMC) and described the group’s assertion as an “assault on the integrity and independence of the legislature.”
Damian Nwikinaka who is NDRC’s director of overview and approach talked about the ” unprecedented act of lies, propaganda, and blackmail by HURIWA which borders on treason challenges the integrity of our constitutional democracy; and seeks to rubbish the National Meeting’s independence and its co-equal web site to the govtarm of Authorities by its name on President Buhari to suspend the Committees of both Homes of the National Meeting.

“Can also we remind HURIWA and other hirelings of the IMC serene lurking in the corners that underneath the Nigerian Structure of 1999 (as amended) the National Meeting is empowered to oversight actions of the govtbranch of executive alongside with all ministries departments and agencies. It’s no longer a accurate that will perhaps well even be abridged or subsumed underneath the govtbranch. In particular, Fragment 88 (1) of the constitution (as amended), confers on the National Meeting the vitality to “teach or reason to be directed investigation into – (a) any topic or thing with admire to which it has the vitality to murder laws, and (b) the habits of affairs of somebody, authority, ministry or executive department charged, or supposed to be charged, with the duty of or duty for – (i) executing or administering laws enacted by National Meeting, and (ii) disbursing or administering monies appropriated or to be appropriated by the National Meeting.” Here is why the National Meeting has a duty to overview the books of NDDC the achieve Akpabio and the IMC were accused of misappropriating the sum of N40 billion so appropriated.

“That the IMC, which incidentally isn’t any longer identified to the law setting up NDDC, has levelled allegations in opposition to the Committees of the National Meeting does no longer, therefore, obviate from the constitutional empowerment of the legislature to express its oversight functions. HURIWA which has chosen to express louder than the bereaved, and its paymasters, IMC, maintain the nation’s anti-corruption agencies such because the EFCC and ICPC to streak to and murder their formal cases rather than the resort to threats, lies, abuses, and blackmail of the National Meeting thereby attempting to sabotage the constitutionally assured oversight characteristic of the legislature.

“We also desire to remind HURIWA that the precept of checks and balances in our constitutional democracy is that each branch of executive is self reliant and any distinction between both fingers is resolved by the courts because the final arbiter. This precept induces one branch to pause either of the opposite branches from turning into supreme, thereby securing political liberty.
“It is the sanctity of the doctrine of separation of powers that’s the crux of the topic and why HURIWA must serene be challenged and exposed for what they stand for, which for all intents and applications jeopardises the nation’s democratic lag.
“HURIWA needs reminding that the investigation being implemented is in the pure line of duty of the National Meeting made up of the Senate and the Dwelling of Representatives.
“What HURIWA is doing is to distort the object of the probe; divert attention from the allegations in opposition to the IMC, survey to damage the integrity of the National Meeting, hurt our constitutional democracy, and thereby let the unlawful IMC continue to loot the NDDC without checks.
“We can therefore no longer condone this and we streak the National Meeting and all Nigerians to stand company and reject, yet once more, this cheap blackmail that the likes of HURIWA maintain made their stock in trade.”
